31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 21

Day Twenty-One: Inspired by Color (Pink)

Base colors--
     Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Straw-Ready
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Petal Pusher
Spoiled by Wet n Wild in Tip Your Waitress
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Gone Grey
     OPI in DS Radiance
Top colors--
     Ulta in Starry Night
Kiss Nail Art in Beach Pink
Kiss Nail Art in Silver Glitter
Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat in Coral Collide
Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Razzle Dazzler

I did what I do when I am "inspired" by a color. I use that color as much as possible, with different designs, shades, and a couple neutral colors thrown in.

There were 4 polishes I had never used that I used on this one.

  1. Ulta in Starry Night--This was the glitter that I used on my thumb. I really liked it, and it was not horrible price! Most chunky glitters that I find are $8 or $9. This was only $6, or free, since I bought it on buy two get one free...
  2. Spoiled in Tip Your Waitress--This was a hot pink color, which I have not bought one of in a long time! It was really good, plus it was mostly matte. Which is different for a bright color.
  3. Crackle in Coral Collide--I have used Crackle polishes by Sally Hansen before. But this one has a shimmery finish, which the others were just shiny or even matte. I liked the color, but because of the sheerness, it made it hard to apply thick enough in one stroke.
  4. Gem Crush in Razzle Dazzler--I liked the Gem Crush! It was pretty much just like any other glitter polish that you can get, however.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 20

Day Twenty: Water Marbled

Sinful Colors in Snow Me White
NYC in Big Apple Red
China Glaze in Papaya Punch
Zoya in Darcy
Essie in Little Brown Dress

I am so behind. And it frustrates me. But I WILL catch up. I am at least going to make sure that I do them all, even if they are on the wrong day.

So, this was harder than I thought, and took some practice. But, after a couple tries, it finally worked out! My ring finger looks the best, if you ask me.

I was going for a fall color scheme. It turned out okay, especially the ring finger :)

I plan to try this again, though, and try to get better designs, because that makes a HUGE difference.

Sorry it's so messy, and late...

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 19

Day Nineteen: Galaxy

China Glaze in Seniorita Bonita
China Glaze in Blue Iguana
Covergirl Outlast in Black Diamond
Kiss Nail Art in Silver Glitter

Yay for another tutorial!!! :) Boo for being late still... :(

I liked them, until I did the silver. Then they were just okay. Next time, I'm doing something different for the "star" part. Like a sequin.

  1. Apply a solid, black nail polish. I used Covergirl Outlast's Black Diamond. Make sure there are no streaky spots.
  2. Pick a blue, preferably a thinner, shimmery blue, and drop a couple drops on another surface. With the cut off corner of a makeup sponge, dip it in the blue, then dab on the nail in various places. I used China Glaze's Blue Iguana.
  3. Repeat step 2 with a purple polish. I used China Glaze's Seniorita Bonita.
  4. With a densely glittered polish, apply a coupe dots to the nail. With a paint brush, diffuse the dots out a little, and make them less dense.
And that's all!

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 18

Day Eighteen: Half Moon

NYC in Big Apple Red
Wet n Wild Megalast in Club Havana

I know...I'm behind again :(

Anyway, this was a super easy one to do, but I decided to do a tutorial on it, just because. There are a lot out there, but I wanted to make one of my own, especially showing off the colors that I picked.

I tried to go with a "fall" theme, hence the red and orange. Kind of like leaves. I have also never used either of these polishes until now. I really liked the red one, but the orange was just okay. It was kind of streaky, and you could see brushstrokes, especially toward the tips of the nails.

I'm also not as big of a fan of the colors on the nail as I was when I held the bottles right next to each other.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 17

Day Seventeen: Glitter

Milani Jewel FX in Gold

I was so excited to try this nail polish. I bought it after seeing it on a couple Youtube channels. It looked like what I was looking for in a glitter polish. And it is! I love this polish. There are only large pieces of glitter, like sequins, not just the shimmer and thin kind. After dabbing on a couple layers, most of my nail was covered. I decided I wanted to use it solo, not as a top coat (mostly because I didn't know what color would look good with it.)

Overall, I love it, and recommend it HIGHLY.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 16

Day Sixteen: Tribal Print

Wet n Wild Wild Shine in Sunny Side Up
Kiss Nail Art in Black

I only used two colors for my tribal print, while many people use multiple colors. I decided to keep it simple, because I have never attempted the tribal print nails before this.

Again, I was inspired by some that I saw on Pinterest (because tribal nails are impossible to avoid on there) but I was not trying to replicate any of them.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 15

Day Fifteen: Delicate Print

Essence Color & Go in Off to Miami
Kiss Nail Art in White

Well, I was finally a day late. :(

I tried to make this one appear as if it were lace. I was inspired by a manicure I saw on Pinterest, but I was not trying to replicate it.

It did not turn out as good as I hoped, and this was the best nail of them all, unfortunately.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 14

Day Fourteen: Flowers

Covergirl Outlast in Black Diamond
Sally Hansen in Mellow Yellow
Sinful Colors in Sweet Tooth
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Lively Lilac

Hello! Today is short and sweet. It was very easy to do, and I only used one polish that I had never used before.

The one that I had never used was the black Covergirl polish. I used this for the base, and it was nice! I really liked how I did not need as many coats as it takes with my black Sally Hansen polish. It also was a good choice, because it provided a nice background for the purple flowers. After that, I simply used a dotter for the center of the flowers, and the petals.

Also, I apologize for the poor quality, I'm having camera problems again :/

31 Day Challenge: Day 13 (Tutorial!)

Day Thirteen: Animal Print

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mellow Yellow
Essie in Little Brown Dress
China Glaze Matte Magic

I decided to do giraffe print for today because 1) it's easy, and 2) I never seen many giraffe nails, or tutorials, if any! So I decided to make a tutorial of my own!

  1. Start with clean, unpolished nail. Add a base coat.
  2. Paint nail with yellow nail polish. I used Mellow Yellow by Sally Hansen. Add several coats until it is a solid yellow. It does not need to be absolutely perfect, because a lot of it will be covered up.
  3. With a large dotting tool, create splotches with a brown nail polish. I used Little Brown Dress by Essie. I just tried to make the spots look as close to giraffe spots as possible, but I did not want every nail to look the same.
  4. Once it is dry, put a matte top coat on top, to make it look more like an animal. I used Matte Magic by China Glaze.
And that's it! It was really easy, and other than waiting for the colors to dry to ensure there was no smearing, it did not take very long at all to do!

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 12

Day Twelve: Stripes

Wet n Wild Wild Shine in Blazed
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Petal Pusher
Kiss Nail Art in White
Kiss Nail Art in Black
Kiss Nail Art in Soft Purple
Kiss Nail Art in Pearl Blue

I was originally going to do more creative ideas for stripes, including more colors, and different designs. But...that clearly didn't work. I really liked the way these turned out, however! My favorite ones are the coral base with white and navy stripes.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 11

Day Eleven: Polka Dots

Sinful Colors in Cotton Candy
Sinful Colors in Unicorn
Sinful Colors in Sweet Nothing
Sinful Colors in Sweet Tooth

Today was simply polka dots! I got most of my ideas off of Pinterest, or were thought of on my own, and more than likely I was remembering one that I saw somewhere.

I'm also upset because they apparently weren't dry, and the colors ran together on a couple of the nails, which sucks :(

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 10

Day Ten: Gradient

Sinful Colors in Snow Me White
Sinful Colors in Cotton Candy
Sinful Colors in Ruby Ruby

I did these pretty much the same way that everyone else does theirs...

  1. Paint the nail white.
  2. Paint the colors desired on a cosmetic makeup sponge.
  3. Dab the makeup sponge on the nail several times until desired effect is reached.
For some of the nails, I went back with just the color that was not appearing as much, and dabbed some more of it on. They are also messy because I was late getting home due to a class I had. So, I'm sorry they look horrible :(

Salon Perfect in Ray of Light
          Kiss in Beach Green
          Kiss in Pearl Blue
          Kiss in Soft Purple
          Kiss in Beach Pink
Polishes--Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Rapid Red
Sally Hansen Xtreme Nail Wear in Sun Kissed
Sally Hansen Xtreme Nail Wear in Mellow Yellow
          Pure Ice in Free Spirit
          Revlon in Urban
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Lively Lilac
          Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Straw-ready
Sinful Colors in Snow Me White
Sally Hansen Xtreme Nail Wear in Black Out
          OPI in DS Radiance
          Revlon in Girly
Wet n Wild Fast Dry in Party of Five Glitters

This was crazy to do, but so much fun!

Thumb: Revlon's Girly
Index: Black, with the Party of Five Glitters
Middle: White, with dots in varying colors, using two sizes of dotting tools
Ring: Every color of the nail art brushes
Pinky: Silver OPI

It took a while, and I kept changing my mind on what I wanted to do.

Also, I'm thinking about doing a tutorial coming up soon. :)

Back to School Nails!

I know this is a little late for some people, but for me, September is back to school, not August. So, this is for all those people who are starting classes or school!

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Hard Hat
Sally Hansen Xtreme Nail Wear in Black Out
Sally Hansen Insta Dri in Petal Pusher
Sinful Colors Nail Polish in Snow Me White
Sinful Colors Nail Polish in Cotton Candy
OPI Nail Polish in DS Radiance
Sally Hansen Insta Dri in Rapid Red
Pure Ice Nail Polish in Free Spirit
Essie Nail Polish in Little Brown Dress
Sinful Colors Nail Polish in Unicorn
Milani Nail Art in Black
Salon Perfect Nail Art in Laser Beam
Kiss Nail Art in Pearl Blue

Thumb: I kept the yellow from my 30 day nail challenge, and just added the pink by using tape and the
pink polish, then a brush with silver polish for the "metal."
Index: The background is the same yellow polish, then I used a dotting tool for the red apple, and a
smaller dotter for the stem and leaves.
Middle: Black polish for the blackboard, then I used a light yellow with a paint brush, and finished it
          with the matte top coat.
Ring: Using tape, I made the triangle, and painted the light skin color, then added the black for the tip.
For the pencil part, I used the yellow from my 30 day challenge, the same as on my thumb, with
          a nail art brush.
Pinky: White color, with skinny red and blue for the stripes to look like notebook paper!

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 8

Day Eight: Metallic

Essie's Nail Polish in Penny Talk

Today was back to just a plain color! I used this polish which I have been holding out on for a while now. And I absolutely loved it. I want to buy all of the colors in this collection (which I believe is the Chrome collection, or something like that.)

I only really needed one coat for several of my nails, but I did use two coats, just to be sure I had no missed spots. It also dries so super quick, I was able to  go about like normal almost immediately. It also is so shiny, it was hard to not get a glare when using a flash to take a picture! And it really does look like the color of a shiny, new penny!

If you are looking for a bronze nail polish, I would highly recommend this polish to anyone.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 7

Day Seven: Black and White

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Black Out
Sinful Colors in Snow Me White
Milani Nail Art in Black
Kiss Nail Art in White
Kiss Nail Art in Black
Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in Pearly White

This post will be a little different than the others, as well as most of them from now on in the 30 day nail challenge.

Thumb: White polish as the base, and the black Milani polish for the spiral
Index: Sinful Colors for the base, and the black Kiss Nail Art for the design and outline (the only
reason I used two so similar was because I did not have the black Kiss one when I did my thumb,
and I liked the Kiss brushes better)
Middle: Black polish as base, and white Kiss nail art in a grid shape
Ring: White base, black dots using the Sally Hansen polish, and a dotting tool
Pinky: Black base and Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen

I have had a couple of Milani Nail Art polishes for a while now. After having those, I bought some of the Kiss colors and loved them. The brushes are thinner, and better for precise designs, such as what is on my index finger. For things like the grid on my middle finger, either one would work, but my only option was the Kiss brand.

Basically, there is not much here for me to review! I always love Sally Hansen and Sinful Colors.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 6

Day Six: Purple

Salon Perfect Nail Polish in Electric Grape

This nail polish was completely different than what I was expecting. I bought it, and could tell there was something in it that was going to make it turn out different than normal polishes. I thought it was not going to be one solid color, but more of like Essie's For the Twill of It. That was not what it was, though.

It was a matte color, no shine at all. But it also has bumps. When I run my finger over it, it's not smooth, its rigid, but not as dramatic as Sally Hansen's Sugar Coat is. Overall, I like it, but it is very different. It took three coats before I was happy with the color, but that's normal for me. For most, it probably would have been fine with two, but I'm picky and particular.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 5

Day Five: Blue

Ulta Nail Polish in Maine Attraction

This was not the nail polish I originally intended to use for the blue day. However, the one I bought for today was just a glitter, but I thought it was an actual color. Thankfully, I picked this one up at Ulta just yesterday!

The price was the only thing that normally steered me away from Ulta nail polish. The polishes are $6 a bottle, which to me, is nearly high end brand pricing. However, since they were on sale for "buy two, get one free," I picked up three of these.

The verdict? I like it. It does have a lot of color after the second coat, even if the first coat makes it look like you will need four or five coats. I also was probably wiping my brush too much, so that was partially my fault. The color is nice, and consistent. Even though they are higher in price than I prefer, I will probably buy more for several reasons:

       1. They have a lot of color selection, which is usually not too picked over.
       2. They have a lot of sales and promotions with Ulta brand products to get people to buy them.
       3. The bottle is a pretty good size, and I like the brush/cap.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 4

Day Four: Green

L'Oreal Nail Polish in New Money

I have never tried a L'Oreal nail polish before this one! I was on a hunt for a good green, and when I saw it in this brand, I thought this would be a good one to try.

I was not super impressed, however. It was thin, and the streaks appeared very visible for a long time. It was also clear if there was even a small area that did not have the same amount of coverage as the others. It was a good green, but the formula was not great. I will still try another L'Oreal polish, and see if maybe there is something different, and if I just got a lemon.

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 3

Day Three: Yellow

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Hard Hat

I absolutely loved this nail polish. I have tried many Sally Hansen nail polishes before and have always liked them, but found that there seems to always be something better. That still holds true, but I was excited to try this new line of Sally Hansen. I had never tried the Hard as Nails line before.

When I started this color, I thought it was going to be much like my polish from yesterday, because it was shimmery and seemed very thin. As I added a second layer, though, I realized how easily it builds. I added three coats, just to make it more intense, but it may have been okay with just two on some nails.

I thought that was impressive, especially considering the stain I have on my pinky nail from a blue polish that won't go away. Also, on the orange polish from yesterday, I could still see the white tips  of my nails through the color. Although my nails are shorter now, it was much harder to see the white.

Overall, I was very impressed with this nail polish AND the color!

I also apologize for the poor quality of the picture. My camera was having issues :/

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 2

Day Two: Orange

Nicole by OPI in Fresh Squeezed

Today the color was orange. I went out and bought this nail polish specifically for the challenge. I have never tried this brand before, mostly because of the price. Most places it is $8, or nearly that. I found mine at Walmart for only $7, so I talked myself into buying it.

I like the color, and the look when it is finished. The only thing I do not like about it, is how long it takes to get the color that I want. It is very thin and transparent. I used three coats on every nail before I was happy with the color. I still put another coat on several of the nails, though. It does have some shimmer to it, which is kind of hard to see in the picture. I was looking more for an opaque and solid color, but I'm glad I tried this!

I do plan on trying more of the Nicole line. I want to find one that is not a shimmer color to see if I like that one better, but overall, this is a good polish!

31 Day Nail Challenge: Day 1

Day One: Red

Sinful Colors Nail Polish in Ruby Ruby

The first day was simply the color red! I recently bought this color, and was waiting to use it until fall, but I guess September is fall! Plus, I had a really good reason to use it, because I wanted to try one I had never tried before.

I love it, but I am also just a general lover of sinful colors nail polish. I used three coats this time. It would have been fine with two though, maybe even one if you were in a hurry. I wanted it to be darker, so I tried to keep building.

Also, I know this was not published on September 1, and I am really frustrated!

31 Day Nail Challenge!

Hello! I never paint my nails very often, so I have decided to try it this month! I found this online, so it is not mine, and I did not create it.

The plan is to try as many new polishes as possible, especially during the first 10 days, where they are solid colors. In them, I will put up the picture, and then tell what nail polish, or nail polishes I used and whether I liked them, if they were already a favorite and so on!

I'll be posting the first picture later tonight of my red nails, with a brand new red color! <3
