31 Day Challenge: Day 30

Welcome back!

Prompt: Inspired by a Tutorial

Silver: OPI ColorPaints Silver Canvas
Pink: Essie Brides No Grooms
Black: Essie Licorice

These were inspired by @simplynaillogical on Instagram! She did some with swirls and cat vinyls, but I just choose some swirls! I really liked the pink, black and silver, and I liked how it was sponged on in a different pattern than your typical gradient. It was fun to do, except using those swirl vinyls. Those were difficult to use, and get off of the sheet.

For the style, I made four corner in alternating colors on the sponge, and then sponged it on on top of the silver with the vinyls already down.

Check back tomorrow for the final day of the challenge!

31 Day Challenge: Day 29

Welcome back!

Prompt: Inspired by the Supernatural

Green: Essie Vibrant Vibes
Skin Tone: Essie Perennial Chic
Tan: Essie Picked Perfect
Black: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Night Fright
White: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri OMGhost
Yellow: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Sizzlin' Saffron
Blue: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Blue Me Away!
Pink: Orly Color Blast Princess Ping
Silver Glitter: China Glaze Fairy Dust
Gold Glitter: Pure Ice Studette

This is probably my least favorite prompt. In general, I don't like things that are "supernatural" or anything like that. I don't know why, I just don't. I think in general they are creepy, to be honest. But I've realized that there can actually be some fun takes on things that are technically supernatural! Today, I was inspired by fairies, so I made Tinkerbell nails! I love the way they turned out, too! I actually did them while watching the movie, Tinkerbell. It was so cute! I had never seen it before, but decided that now would be the time to watch it.

I used a nail art brush and a dotting tool for everything except the middle nail, which is inspired by her dress. I used striping tape for that to make the zig zag, because I wanted it deeper than a chevron would do.

The swirly fingers are inspired by the fairy dust that appears behind them and around them as they fly, and then her face is my ring finger, her dress is my middle, and my index finger is her wings! The face was inspired by @lauramerino on Instagram!

31 Day Challenge: Day 28

Welcome back!

Prompt: Inspired by a Flag

Blue: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri In Prompt Blue
Yellow: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Sizzlin' Saffron
Dark(er) Blue: Orly Color Blast A Happy...Puddle
Red: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Rapid Red
Black: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Night Fright
White: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri OMGhost
Tan: Essie Perennial Chic

For this nail art, I was inspired by the Wisconsin state flag! I recently moved here, so I thought it was a good idea to do one to sort of "commemorate" it. That way, when I look back at this challenge, I'll always remember which year it was I moved! Not that I'm likely to forget, but it was still fun.

I used a detailing nail art brush from a pack of brushes from Winstonia.

31 Day Challenge: Day 26

Welcome back!

Prompt: Inspired by a Pattern

Red: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Rapid Red
White: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri OMGhost

This pattern was really simple! I used some vinyls from Twinkled T, which can be found here. The pattern is pretty obvious, which is an EKG reading. I thought of this because my boyfriend in an EMT and that pattern came to mind, and then I had the vinyls, too!

Check back tomorrow for more nail art! <3 (and me catching up!!!)

31 Day Challenge: Day 25

Welcome back!

Prompt: Inspired by Fashion

Gray: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Show Steel-er
Orange: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Pumpkin Queen
Gold: Sally Hansen Color Foil Liquid Gold

I know, I'm finally behind. And I hate it! But I'm working on catching up. I went home for the weekend to visit family, and I was so busy that by the time I went to get in bed at night, when I would normally do my nails, I was too tired! I'm going to get caught up quickly, though, and I'd like to still finish on time!

These nails were inspired by a dress I saw from New York Fashion Week from this Fall 2015. The picture can be found below!

31 Day Challenge: Day 24

Welcome back!

Prompt: Inspired by a book

White: Essie Blanc
Light Green: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Mint Sorbet
Medium Green: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Green With Envy
Dark Green: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Tan Lime
Gray: Essie Blanc + Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Show Steel-er
Tan/Peach: Essie Perennial Chic
Brown: Essie Little Brown Dress

I know, it's late. But I had a good reason! I was traveling today, and the wifi at the airport and on the plane were awful. Plus, I forgot my dark brown polish, which I needed, and it was back here at home, so I had to wait until I was here to finish it up!

I was inspired by the book Matched by Ally Condie. It's the book I'm currently reading, and have been for a while now, but I haven't had a lot of time to read with work and school and moving! Life gets crazy sometimes.

To make the ombre look, I used a latex free sponge and did a gradient on top of white with all of the greens. The details were painted with a new nail art brush from Winstonia store!

31 Day Challenge: Day 23

Welcome back!

Prompt: Inspired by a movie

Medium Blue: China Glaze UV Meant To Be
Dark Blue: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Blue It
Nude: Essie Brides to Be
White: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri OMGhost

Silver: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Celeb City
Dark Brown: Essie Comfy in Cashmere
Black: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Night Fright
Medium Brown/Tan: Picked Perfect
Pink: OPI Suzi Shops & Island Hops

Today, I was inspired by the movie "Cinderella!" This was more on the Disney animated version. I did her face, which was inspired by @lauramerino12 on Instagram. She did these cute little princess faces a couple of years ago, and I loved them! The other nails include the clock on my index finger, the glass slipper on my pinky, and her dress on my thumb. The middle nail is her silhouette, which is a decal I got here from Twinkled T.

Summerized Galaxy Nails

Welcome back!

Yellow: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Sizzlin' Saffron
Small Glitter: Pure Ice Studette

I finally did my summer version of galaxy nails the other day! I figured since it's the first day of fall, I should finally post them so I have no outstanding posts going in to fall. I love the way these came out. They are so much fun, and I love the colors together. It even looks pretty galaxy like to me, and not too whimsical! I hope you guys like them!

31 Day Challenge: Day 22

Welcome back!

Prompt: Inspired by a Song

Red: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Rapid Red
Orange: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Pumpkin Queen
Yellow: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Sizzlin' Saffron
Green: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri I-rush Luck
Light Blue: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Blue Away
Dark Blue: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri In Prompt Blue
Purple: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lively Lilac
White: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri OMGhost
Gray: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Show Steel-er
Black: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Night Fright
Gold: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Golden-I

Song Inspiration: Long Live by Taylor Swift

In case no one has noticed from the past challenges, I love Taylor Swift! I was listening to this song and I just had this image of nail art, and this is what I got! I know it's a lot of polishes, but that's because of the confetti. So, the lines of the song I got this from, starting at the index finger...

Dragon: "I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you."
Crowns: "We are the kings and the queens / You traded your baseball cap for a crown."
Confetti: "Hold on to spinning around / Confetti falls to the ground"

And that's it! Check back tomorrow for more nail art! <3

31 Day Challenge: Day 21

Welcome back!

Prompt: Inspired by a Color

Glitter: OPI Baroque...But Still Shopping!
Gray: OPI I Cannoli Wear OPI
Green: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Tan Lime
Gold: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Golden-I

The color that inspired me was the glitter polish that I have on my pointer and pinky fingers. It is from the new OPI Venice collection. I love it! The color itself is beautiful, and I love the way I was inspired. I made my middle and ring fingers look like money floating around, because it talks about shopping! I don't know why, but this is just what I was feeling, and what I got inspired to do, and since that is the prompt of the day, I went with it.

31 Day Challenge: Day 20

Welcome back!

Prompt: Watermarble

Gray: OPI I Cannoli Wear OPI
Dark Purple: OPI O Suzi Mio
Light Purple: OPI Purple Palazzo Pants

I decided not to do a full hand of watermarbled, because it's a lot of work, and I wanted to do something different. So I marbled three nails and then added a dotticure to one nail and a solid color to another so it was a little different. I really liked it! I don't want to take this off!

31 Day Challenge: Day 19

Welcome back!

Prompt: Galaxies

Gray: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Show Steel-er
Green: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Mint Sorbet
Blue: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Breezy Blue
Purple: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Lacey Lilac
Glitter: China Glaze Fairy Dust
White: Salon Perfect Nail Art Striper White Out

Obviously, I do galaxies quite a bit. I just love them! There is so much you can do with them, and I think they are fun, but can be subtle, too. They don't have to be screaming, or crazy or anything like that. They are easy, too. They are so good for beginners, because they don't have to be perfect, and there's no difficult details to them!

This time, I decided I wanted to do something that was sort of a pastel galaxy, instead of a typical and common one. I was inspired mostly by The Nail Trail. Her instagram can be found here. I am so in love with these! They turned out so cute, and they are more subtle, since they used a gray background and pastel colors.

31 Day Challenge: Day 18

Welcome back!

Prompt: Half Moon

Gray: OPI I Cannoli Wear OPI
Dark Puple: OPI O Suzi Mio
Light Purple: OPI Purple Palazzo Pants
Blue: OPI Gelato On My Mind

So, I originally did different nails for today. But I hated them. They did not look right, so I changed it up this morning, and I love these. These are a slightly different sort of half moon, but I love the way they turned out! All of the polishes that I used were from the OPI Venice Collection. All it took for this look was a dotting tool, which is awesome because most half moon manicures take a sticker, so you have to wait forever for them to dry! These were quick, and they are so cute!

31 Day Challenge: Day 17

Welcome back!

Prompt: Glitter

Blue: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Blue-Away
Glitter: Sally Hansen Insta-Ombre Grey-diant

This nail art was super easy! All I did was follow the instructions for the insta-ombre polish. Basically you paint your whole nail with a coat. Then your second coat only covers two-thirds of your nail, and your third coat covers just one-third of your nail. I brushed a little extra on the tip, too, just to make it more dense there and then fade a little better going up.

Baseball Nails 2015 #6: OPI Umpires Come Out At Night

Welcome back!

Here are some more late post nails from the first of September that I did when my dad and I went to our last baseball game of the season! Well, at least more than likely. I moved out of state temporarily, and so I don't know when I can get home to go to another game until next summer. So for now, I'm just going to assume it was my last game until spring!

Anyway, I wanted to do something even more fun than my last few nail art designs that I did for baseball games, so I did three accent nails! Do they count as accent nails when there is more than there are solid nails? Anywho, I did a plastic bag nail, a chevron nail, and of course a baseball nail!

White: OPI Alpine Snow
Blue: OPI Umpires Come Out At Night
Red: Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art Pen Red

The chevron nail was done using regular chevron nail vinyls. They can be found here.

31 Day Challenge: Day 16

Welcome back!

Prompt: Geometric

Nude: China Glaze What's She Dune?
Blue: China Glaze Rain Dance the Night Away
Red: China Glaze The Heat is On
Black: It's So Easy Stripe Rite

We are over half way done! I'm so happy I've stayed on track, and I'm really happy with my work this year, too. This nail art was sort of inspired by the kit itself. I got all of the polishes, including the striper, together in a kit from Sally Beauty Supply. All of the China Glaze polishes were from the new   (ish) Desert Escape collection.

I actually made a video on me doing these, but I don't know yet what I'll do with it! It was easy, though. All I did was use nail vinyls and polish!

31 Day Challenge: Day 15

Welcome back!

Prompt: Delicate Print

Light Green: Essie Vibrant Vibes
Dark Green: Essie Melody Maker

Stamping Plate: Winstonia W319

These are going to be short and sweet today! I used the stamping plate and the dark green polish, which is really more teal, to stamp on a design. This is actually my right hand, too, which explains why there is no pointer finger. I painted my left hand, but the stamping looked awful, and I tried something else which made it worse, and my right hand actually looked good...minus the bandage on my finger where I cut my cuticle and couldn't paint it! So I just held it out of the shot.

Say hi to Cindy, because it'll probably be forever before she's seen again!

31 Day Challenge: Day 14

Welcome back!
Prompt: Flowers

Gray: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Show Steel-er
Red: China Glaze I Brake For Colour
Orange: China Glaze Pop The Trunk
Gold: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Golden-I

I know...where is the red AND orange? These two colors turned out to be very similar, and in small portions, I think it's even harder to tell. It's there, though, so I included two pictures so that you can hopefully see it a little better in one of them!

I used three different sized dotting tools for these, and I'm really happy with how they turned out! I like the color on top of the gray, and then the gold that I used as a pop of color! It turned out really well, and I really like them!

31 Day Challenge: Day 13

Welcome back!

Prompt: Animal Print

White: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri OMGhost
Black: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Night Fright

I don't do a lot of animal print nails in general, so this is always a good day for me, because it gets me to do something different! I was trying to think of an easy animal to do, and the first thing that came to mind was zebra! So, this is clearly just a plain and simple zebra print manicure. I freehanded all of the stripes using black polish and a detail brush I got from Sally Beauty Supply.

31 Day Challenge: Day 12

Welcome back!

Prompt: Stripes

White: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri OMGhost
Pink: Orly Color Blast Winter Blush
Blue: Orly Color Blast A Happy...Puddle
Silver: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Celeb City

I found a couple of fun colors for this, and thought multicolored stripes would be awesome! I didn't want to do five fingers of stripes, though, so I added some fun flowers and a solid accent nail. I love this color scheme so much! It's fun and girly, and it works for lots of seasons, I think! I love pairing the dark blue with bright pink, and the silver accents, because it works for winter, but I think it could also work for spring, too, especially with the flowers on it!

For the stripes nails, I used a variety of sizes of straight Nail Vinyls, found here. The flowers were done using dotting tools. The pink and blue polish were both a part of the Elsa collection that was in Walgreens around the springtime.

31 Day Challenge: Day 11

Welcome back!

Prompt: Polka Dots

Today starts a new category in the 31 Day Challenge! This category/section is "styles." This is probably my favorite section, because of the prompts. It makes me more creative, but gives me enough direction that I'm not lost or stuck. Hopefully after today, you'll be done seeing dots from me for a while! Sorry for all of the dotticures, but moving sucks!

White: China Glaze White On White
Purple: China Glaze Wanderlust
Light Pink: China Glaze Pack Lightly
Dark Pink: China Glaze Pinking Out the Window

I used about three different sized dotting tools for this. They can be found here!

31 Day Challenge: Day 10

Welcome back!

Today's Prompt: Gradient

We are a third of the way done! ...basically. I think of the last day as being so different, and so I just count the thirds as the 10th and 20th, and the half being the 15th!

White: Essie Blanc
Light Pink: Essie Groove is in the Heart
Dark Pink: Essie Coacha' bella
Purple: Essie All Access Pass

I chose three polishes for this today, all of them being from the Neons 2015 collection. I used a latex free cosmetic sponge for the gradient, as always. My only tricks for gradients can probably be found anywhere, but my first "trick" is using a white base coat. I always use white, no matter what color gradient I'm putting down. I feel like the colors show up perfectly true, then, and they blend better. My other trick is to put down a top coat before sponging on, and letting it dry. I use a fast drying top coat, and let it dry for about 10 minutes, and then I will sponge on my colors. When applying, I move from side to side, dabbing up and down, as well as moving up and down on my nail to blend a little better as needed.

31 Day Challenge: Day 9

Welcome back!

Today's Prompt: Rainbow

Silver: OPI Colorpaints Silver Canvas
Green: OPI Colorpaints Landscape Artist
Blue: OPI Colorpaints Turquoise Aesthetic
Purple: OPI Colorpaints Purple Perspective
Pink: OPI Colorpaints Pen & Pink
Magenta: OPI Colorpaints Magenta Muse

I kept it pretty simple, again, but I like this one alright. I used the color paints collection, because I thought they were supposed to blend really well. They blended alright, but not great. I used five different sized dotting tools to create the dots in different colors and sizes, starting with the smallest and getting larger toward the tip of the nail. I worked in sort of a rainbow order for this.

August Favorites

Welcome back!

Today I wanted to share my favorites from the month of August! I know it's a little late, but I got busy with the 31 Day Challenge as soon as September started, and then I moved out of state, so I've been pretty busy! August was pretty god for me as far as nail art goes. I was able to get a lot done, and I got a lot more motivated to get into a good routine with doing my nails regularly. I did some really fun things, and I'm excited to share them!

Manicure Favorites

Essie Resort + Eiffel Tower: I was in love with this manicure! This was the first time I attempted a plastic bag effect for my nail art, and I am so glad I finally tried it. I loved using all of the colors from the same collection, too, because I knew they went together, and it made it so easy to do.

Essie Summer Mix & Match: Another mix & match manicure, featuring another plastic bag nail. I loved using from al the same collection again. I loved how I paired up the colors, and how they all went together, even though there were six different colors used. It was so much fun to make and wear.

OPI Hawaii Mix & Match: Yet again, I took several polishes all from one collection and mashed them up to do a mix & match. I had another plastic bag nail, with some flowers and more chevrons, but a different kind of chevron than usual.

Other Favorites
  • Plastic Bag Manicures. I have been seeing these around for the longest time, and I always liked the look of them, but I never tried them. I always sort of expected that they would take forever to dry, since they have such large amounts of polish on one finger. But that was not the case, and I couldn't have been more please! They are so easy to do, dry relatively quickly (quicker than I expected) and look so cool!
  • Mix & Match Nails. I've always sort of liked these, but I've never been good at mixing and matching, so it was never a favorite. I loved it this month, though, because I learned that the trick is to just pick some colors from the same collection. They will go together well, then, but they can still be different and make it exciting!
  • Manicures with Polishes All from Same Collection. This is sort of along the lines of a mix & match, but I just found how helpful this was. It makes choosing and pairing so easy, and they will almost always look good together. You do have to still think about it, and make the decision, but it is a lot easier this way.
New Tries in August

  • Plastic bag: I've mention this so many times in this post, it's not even funny. It doesn't even sound like a real word anymore. But I am just completely obsessed with this trick and technique. It is something that everyone who likes doing nails needs to try, and anyone can do. There's no wrong way to do it! My first attempt can be found here.
  • Straw Splatter: This was another easy technique that I've seen done a lot, but never tried myself. I liked it alright, but it wasn't a favorite of mine. I need to try it more, so I can learn the proper techniques and tricks to it so I know better what I'm doing next time. My splatter nail art can be found here!

31 Day Challenge: Day 8

Welcome back!

Today's Prompt: Metallic

Polish: L'Oreal Frieda's Nude
Studs: from Sally Beauty Supply

This was a super simple manicure, because I wasn't really feeling very creative at the time, and I just wanted to keep it simple. All I did was paint my nails with the nude, and then I added one stud to each ring finger.

31 Day Challenge: Day 7

Welcome back!

Today's Prompt: Black & White

Black: OPI Black Onyx
White: OPI Alpine Snow

I kept it really simple, because I was exhausted from it being moving day for me, and I was in a hotel again for the night. I just wanted to get something cute and simple though, anyway, because I usually do something crazy on this day for some reason!

I really like the way this turned out, though! It's simple, but it's also sort of classy. I know there are some places that don't like black nail polish, but I do, and I think with some accents, it is totally acceptable! All I used for this was the nail polish and a dotting tool with a large end and a medium end.

31 Day Challenge: Day 6

Welcome back!

Today's Prompt: Violet

White: Zoya Purity
Purple: Orly Color Blast Olaf You A Lot

I don't know if this polish is technically violet, but it's purple, and to me, violet and purple are the same. I had to do these nails in a hotel room, and all of my nail art stuff is packed, so it was slim pickins'. I used a bobby pin to do the accent nail. It's supposed to look like confetti! I think it's fun no matter what. It was vaguely based off a manicure I saw done by Chalkboard Nails. Her post can be found here.

31 Day Challenge: Day 5

Welcome back!

Today's Prompt: Blue

Blue: Morgan Taylor Best Ball Gown Ever
Glitter: Morgan Taylor If The Slipper Fits

I was in a hurry when I did these nails, because I was doing them at 4:00 AM today, and I was also going to be in a car all day, because I'm moving! So I kept it pretty simple.

I actually really like the way these turned out, though! They are simple, but I think they are really pretty, and I really liked the colors together, and just in general and by themselves! Both of these polishes were from the Cinderella collection, and I'd only tried one more by Morgan Taylor before. I was pretty impressed!

31 Day Challenge: Day 4

Welcome back!

Today's prompt: Green

White: Essie Blanc
Green: Essie Yespadrilles

I went simple today, and with something I don't do too often. I did a half moon manicure, and I used a new Essie Cashmere Matte Bright for the green. I really liked how it turned out! If the white looked better and shinier, I probably would've left it untopcoated, that way it was matte and shiny. It looked kind of cool that way!

31 Day Challenge: Day 3

Welcome back!

Today's Prompt: Yellow

Today I had a different plan originally. I even did it…and it failed. I pushed it up to the last minute, so I didn't have time to redo what I planned, so I did something different, which I actually really like!

Yellow: China Glaze Sun's Up, Top Down
White: China Glaze White On White

For the accent nail, I just used a dotting tool and created a "border" around my nail with dots! I actually really like the way it turned out. I think it's really fun and different, but a twist on a dotticure!

31 Day Challenge: Day 2

Welcome back!

Today's Prompt: Orange

Today I wanted to do something different, and something that I hadn't tried before, so I went with a gingham print accent nail!

White: OPI Alpine Snow
Dark Orange: OPI It's a Piazza Cake
Light Orange: OPI Is Mai Tai Crooked?

I used a small detail brush to freehand the gingham print. I did the lines with the lighter orange, and the darker orange was for where the lines crossed and overlapped each other.

31 Day Challenge 2015: Day 1

Welcome back!

It's the first day of the 31 Day Challenge! I'm so excited to take this on again this year, and do even better than last year!

Today's Prompt: Red

Red: Essie Happy Wife, Happy Life
White: Essie Blanc

These were super simple nails to get this challenge started, but I really like the way they turned out! I used a small and large dotting tool for the accent nails on the ring finger and thumb.

Check in tomorrow for a new challenge!

Wet 'n Wild Summer Mix & Match

Welcome back!

Today I wanted to share the nails I painted for the other day! I wanted to finally use some of the Wet 'n Wild summer polishes that I had laying around, so I picked out three of them that went well together and did a sort of mix & match! I've been loving mix & match nails lately, because they are so much fun! I just like how there is something for everybody in them.

Pink: Wet 'n Wild Re: In Carnation
Orange: Wet 'n Wild Sun Settle Down
Yellow: Wet 'n Wild Bee-U-Tiful
White: OPI Alpine Snow

I wasn't crazy about this manicure in general. It was alright, but my least favorite thing was the middle finger. I just didn't care for the lightning bolt with this set of nails. It's not awful, but it could've gone better with something else, for sure.

The pointer finger was sponged on using a latex free cosmetic sponge, and the dot flower was done using some basic dotting tools. For the middle finger lightning bolt, I used the tip of the sponge to try to fade the orange up into not much of the yellow.

OPI Hawaii Mix & Match

Welcome back!

Today I wanted to share with you what I did the other day using some more of the OPI Hawaii collection. So far, I love that collection! I bought 9 of the 12 polishes, and they are all so fun and pretty.

Purple: OPI Hello Hawaii Ya?
Green: OPI That's Hula-rious!
Orange: OPI Is Mai Tai Crooked?

The ring finger was the plastic bag method (again) and the middle finger was done using single chevron Nail Vinyls. The flowers were done using basic dotting tools.
